Pilot Programme to Enhance Talent Training for the Insurance Sector and the Asset and Wealth Management Sector
For the asset and wealth management sector, there are three initiatives under the Pilot Programme –
a. Promotion and education programme
To reach out to the public, especially students, through different promotion and education initiatives. The aim is to promote awareness not only to the careers in the asset and wealth management sector, but also the different functional roles available, from front, middle to back offices. This would in turn help enhance the public’s and students’ understanding of the sector and attract them to join the profession upon graduation.
b. Internship programme for undergraduate students
Internship experience will give the younger generation early exposure to the wide spectrum of career opportunities in the sector. Local financial institutions are invited to participate in the programme and offer internship positions related to asset and wealth management during the summer vacation. The programme is open to local non-final year undergraduate students of the University Grants Committee - funded institutions.
The internship period for each intern lasts four to eight weeks. Out of the monthly honorarium that a student will receive, the Government will contribute up to 75% or $7,000 (whichever is the lower) for an internship period of up to eight weeks, while the remaining sum as well as the cost for guidance and coaching should be contributed by the financial institutions.
c. Financial incentive scheme for professional training
In-service practitioners of the financial services industry are eligible for the scheme. They may apply for reimbursement of 80% of the tuition fees upon satisfactory completion of an eligible course. Each individual may apply for fee reimbursement for more than one course, up to a ceiling of $7,000 per person over the three-year period of the pilot programme.
